How difficult is it to install replacement windows doing it yourself? I have no experience installing replacement windows and will be replacing 23 windows on a house we just purchased. Looking for some advice on (1) what windows to buy, and (2) how difficult it is to remove and install. I am fairly handy, remodeled a bathroom tearing everything down to the studs, installed a new door frame, laid new laminate flooring. I am not afraid to try this on my own, want to know if I would be getting in over my head.

windows xp replacement shell? ok, so i had my windows xp shell with the green start button and stuff for the taskbar i then downloaded a windows vista live shell pack but then i didnt want it so i uninstalled it, now every time i turn on my computer a message comes up saying something like "windows vista live shell can not be found on your system" and then the taskbar changes to the classic taskbar but the bar at the top of the screen in programs (with like the x and reduce the windows and stuff) is still just like the regular windows xp thing! i wus wondering if it could find a replacement windows xp shell JUST like the original one... and how to install this shell also.. THANKS :) (also i already tried right clicking on the taskbar and it said it wus set to xp not classic even though its not)
Insulating around replacement windows? What are some opinions of the best way to insulate around the replacement windows when you install them. I am currently using batt insulations and pushing it in all around the window with a putty knife, since I have tons of extra batts to use. What has anyone else had success with? Is that non-expanding foam any good? At $5 a can its quite pricey. Just curious of different or most successfull options out there.
2000 Dodge Dakota Rear Window Replacement? I just ordered a replacement window for my 2000 dodge dakota regular cab and am planning on installing it myself. I have some knowledge of how to install windshields, but have never attempted to replace a rear window. Can "double hung" replacement windows be turned 90 degrees and installed as sliders?? We have an opportunity to buy some replacement windows that was originally purchased as vinyl double hung. DIY Replacement windows? My husband and I bought an older house (1930?) and it's got the most awful windows you can imagine. When we bought it, the basement bedroom windows were painted and nailed shut and covered with plastic. For fire safety, we had someone "fix" the windows, but essentially what he did was sand them down to the point where you can see daylight around the edges. The work was free to us (gift from our realtor) so I couldn't do much about it. Anyway, I can't afford to have professionals come in and install all new windows in the house. I'd like to, before winter, at least get the basement bedroom windows replaced so my kids, my husband and I don't freeze to death. I want to permanently install a window air conditioner unit. The fit needs to be air-tight.? Window is standard size, vinyl replacement. Contract question - My replacement windows were installed 7 months late.? I had a contract with a home improvement company to put replacement windows in my house. The contract was dated June 1st 2007 and said they would deliver and install the windows within 2-4 weeks. They just showed up last week (7 1/2 months late) and installed the.... Do I still have to pay them? Some are still messed up and I've spent tons of time trying to get things straightened out with them. Can they sue me or put a lien on my house considering that they broke the contract? They broke the contract by committing to start the job AND be finished within 2-4 weeks and then gave one excuse after another and didn't show up again for almost 8 months. They also provided a bunch of broken materials and I have one window with a broken frame, and 2 where the glass is broken. They have replaced one of the broken glasses and not fixed the other stuff. I have about 60-70 hours of my own time invested in dealing with them by now. The company also had advertised "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back"... I don't think they satisfied the contract which is why I am wondering if I have to pay them...

Adding a window - replacement vs new? We're adding a window in a master bedroom (remodel) Our contractor recommended going with a replacement window versus new. Is this since they just cut through our existing cedar siding, and install it in on the inside of the window versus the exterior and re-side over it.
