My present HD is a/ C: 320GB Western Digital NTFS, it had windows Vista on it. I couldn't cope with it. I tried to install windows XP didn't work/ tried to install Linux didn't work/ unable to reinstall Vista/. STUMPPED. If I bought a replacement HD, what would I have to do, in order to install Windows XP on it. I have drivers for both Vista as well as Windows XP for my PC (Lenovo Idea Center K210 2 GB ram. 1. Make sure you have an open SATA port on your motherboard, SATA power connector, and then just hook it up to your system if you decide to buy a new one.

  2. All you'd have to do is connect the drive as the primary and set your BIOS to boot from CD, then pop in your install disk and install your preferred operating system. Choose how you want to format (NTFS or FAT32) and bang, you're loading windows.

  3. just open the case, unplug the ribbon and power cables from the old hdd and plug in the new one. install windows xp to it. done

  4. After installing the new hard drive, start your computer with your Vista installation CD in the CD/DVD drive. It will ask you if you want to start from the CD, which you do. Follow the instructions. You will also have to install all the drivers with a driver cd that should have come with your computer.

  5. So you have a blank hard disk inside a Lenovo machine.

You also have drivers for both Windows Vista and Windows XP.

In order to install any OS (Vista, Linux, WinXP).. you should just have to boot to the installation CD or DVD.

If your machine doesn't want to boot from the CD or DVD, then check the BIOS settings.

When the machine is first powering up, you should see something like

"Hit <DEL> for system setup" or " <F2> for system setup".

Try the Lenovo Key [LVT].. maybe that will give you a workable option.

Just change the boot device to your CD/DVD drive.

From there, the Windows XP disk should start to choose your disk drive, partition & format.. then do what it does.

If you are still under warranty, you might want to see if Lenovo will help you restore this to factory-new. You should be able to install Windows from the original CD without too much trouble.

But, all the Lenovo service partitions are not going to be available to you. If it were my machine, I'd probably want the convenience of all those recovery tools.
